A step-by-step guide on logging into the NIHR Learn account. NIHR Learn is the website for the National Institute for Health and Care Research's free, accredited national learning programmes.
1. Go to the NIHR Learn website, which will direct you to a sign-in page.
2. If you don't already have an NIHR Learn account, select "Create Account". If you do have an account with this site, login and skip steps 3-14.
3. "Create Account" should take you to this screen, where you should select “Yes”.
4. You will be prompted to enter your email. Hit Enter/Return on your keyboard to be taken to the next page.
5. Fill in the details on this page. All fields are required. Check the tick box for the Terms and Conditions and hit Next to continue.
6. This page will allow you to add an ORCID ID if you have one. This is optional - the ORCID ID can also be added to your account later on.
7. If you select skip ORCID ID it will take you to this page:
8. You will then be sent an account activation email from NIHR to the email you used to set up this account. It will be from: identity@nihr.ac.uk and have "Identity Gateway Account Confirmation" in the subject line. Please check your junk mail if you do not see it in your inbox.
Follow the link in the email to verify your account. You will now need to select "Login and access your applications". This will take you back to the NIHR login screen:
9. When you first log in after setting up your account, you will see this screen:
10. Once you login, you will be sent an email from identity@nihr.ac.uk with "Identity Gateway One Time Password" in the subject line. Again, you may need to check in your junk mail if you do not see it in your inbox. The email will contain a password which you will need to enter in the box on the screen shown above. Once entered, press the "Authenticate" button. That will take you to this page, which allows you to set up the consents for your account with NIHR. These are all mandatory, so you need to select "select all". Once all boxes are ticked, click the "Continue" button.
11. This will take you to the main NIHR Learn website, possibly via a holding page.
12. The first time you log in and get to the screen above, you will not be able to search for a course until you update your profile on the website. The website will automatically take you to the profile page if you attempt to conduct a search on the website. You can navigate to the profile page by clicking your initials at the top right of the page, then selecting ‘Edit Profile’ from the dropdown menu. This profile page will prompt you to fill in the required information, marked with a red dot with a white exclamation mark inside. 13. Once you have filled in at least the mandatory fields (marked with a red dot with a white exclamation mark inside) you can click the ‘Update profile’ button at the bottom of the page and it will take you to this page:
14. From this page you can now select the 'Search' icon and a search box will appear. Type "Getting Started in Optometric Research" into the search box and press 'enter'. This should take you to a search results page:
15. Select "Getting Started in Optometric Research" - this will take you to the page below:
16. This is the enrolment page for the course "Getting Started in Optometric Research". Click the "Enrol me" button near the bottom of the page. This will take you to the page shown below:
17. You can now start to work your way through the modules.
