Nominations open for Research Excellence Awards 2024

The College’s Research Excellence Awards recognise achievements in optometric research, and the way in which they enrich the whole profession.

Those who are put forward for the Awards are inspirational individuals who make a significant contribution to the evidence-base that underpins good practice - now or in the future.  

This is your chance to make a difference to a researcher's career and to recognise their exceptional talent.

Nominations are open until Monday 22 July 2024.

Available Awards: 

  • NEW: The Frank Petticrew Award for Contact Lens Research, Practice or Education in Optometry
  • The Neil Charman Medal for Research
  • The Philip Cole Prize for practice-based research
  • The George Giles Postgraduate Research Prize
  • The Giles Van Colle Memorial Award for research or clinical case work relating to paediatric optometry

*For case studies, each study should be presented in a brief paragraph describing the condition that was present, the tests and treatment used and the outcomes of the treatment. More information about how to write a case study. Abstracts should be presented under the headings: Purpose/Aims; Background; Methods; Results; Conclusion. 

Both research and case studies should be free from restrictions that would prevent their presentation in person or via internet events, or their publication in a relevant journal if they have not yet been published.
