2024 Member Survey reveals how College guidance is supporting profession

Thank you to all our members who completed this year's Member Satisfaction Survey.

The College of Optometrists' 2024 Member Satisfaction Survey revealed that College guidance, in all of its forms, is highly valued by members:

  • 86% of members believe the College produces high quality guidance
  • Nearly a third of members said they use our Clinical Management Guidelines (CMGs) at least once a week, and that increases to nearly two thirds over a month
  • Over a year, more than 90% of College members refer to our CMGs

More than 80% of College members refer to our Guidance for Professional Practice (GfPP) every year too. Developed to support optometrists in making clinical and professional decisions, and updated in 2023, the GfPP is an essential reference for optometrists in all work environments. Now in its 4th edition, it is based on the GOC’s Standards of Practice for Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians and helps clinicians to put those standards into practice.

The Guidance is open access and available to all optometrists, healthcare professionals and the public on The College of Optometrists’ website. College members also have access to it and additional supporting materials, via the College app, which will soon be updated with some great new features.

Daniel Hardiman-McCartney MBE FCOptom, Lead Clinical Adviser at the College of Optometrists said:

“The 4th edition has many updates and contains new sections that enable optometrists to innovate the ways eye care can be delivered, whilst still ensuring good practice and protecting the public.

“It is published digitally on our website, on our member app and in PDF for expert witnesses, making the 4th edition the most collaborative and sustainable guidance to date.”

  • 98% of attendees to College CPD rate it as excellent or good.

The member survey also showed:

  • 86% highly value the College’s educational resources
  • 71% of College members firmly believe that College membership has a positive impact on their career

College CPD is free for all College members. As we approach the end of the current CPD cycle, we would urge all College members needing to complete their requirements to visit our CPD hub.
