Optometrist, Stewart Caithness Gray Optometrists, New Zealand
About the practice
We are an independent practice in the city of Dunedin in the South Island of New Zealand. Dunedin is a great small city at the head of Otago Harbour with plenty of walking and biking trails on the doorstep and hills over 2000ft on the edge of town. We have the only mainland colony of royal albatros in the world as well as colonies of the rare yellow eyed and blue penguins, seals and shags.
If you are getting tired of working in the UK and fancy working in a beautiful country where the commute to work takes 10 minutes, get in touch with me. I was in your position 30 years ago, came out here for 18 months and am still here.
About the role
We may be on the other side of the world but we practice in basically the same way as you. We are looking for a full time, permanent optometrist and can offer you the full professional freedom you want. Most of the NZ optoms are independent prescribers and a growing number manage glaucoma patients independently as well.
You must be registered as an optometrist in NZ and unfortunately, UK qualifications no longer automatically allow you to register. There is a bit of a process that you have to go through in order to gain registration but if interested, we can talk about that. It is certainly well worth the effort though if you are keen to come out.
