Description

This dedicated therapeutics peer discussion session will help qualified independent prescribers or those already studying for an IP qualification to improve their standards of patient care by discussing cases that are based on real practice with a small group of fellow IP practitioners. Discussing various approaches among peers stimulates interest and broadens perspectives as different practitioners may approach clinical and ethical problems in different ways.

Communication

s.2 Communicate effectively with patients

  • Able to effectively explain and advise patients presenting with anterior eyelid lesions about their ocular condition. 
  • Able to effectively explain and advise patients presenting with corneal abrasion about their ocular condition.

Clinical Practice

s.7 Conduct appropriate assessments, examinations, treatments and referrals

  • Able to evaluate differential diagnoses appropriately and identify pathology resulting in appropriate management of the patients’ presenting signs and symptoms.
  • Able to differentially diagnose common anterior eyelid lesions and understand which can be managed in practice and when referral is required. 

Specialty CPD - AS/SP/IP optometrist

  • Able to investigate and understand the treatment options available to IP optometrists for patients presenting with anterior eye disease.
