Description

This session will help delegates identify the causes of retinal haemorrhages, the ways to investigate them, developing a differential diagnosis and management of the patient.

Domains and learning outcomes

Clinical practice

  • To understand the causes of retinal haemorrhages and the ability to investigate and treat the causes. Delegates will learn a differential diagnosis process of thinking.

Communication

  • This is an interactive discussion, to discuss the causes of retinal bleeds, ways to investigate and develop a differential diagnosis. Delegates will learn to communicate findings with patients in an appropriate manner depending on the diagnosis.

Bilal Mohammed BSc (Hons) DipTp(IP) ProfCert Glau ProfCert medical retina

Bilal Mohammed qualified in 2014 and has since worked in numerous settings. Further education achievements include independent prescribing and professional certificates in medical retina and Glaucoma. 

Bilal is currently a regional team lead senior optometrist at SpaMedica and has experience in medical retina clinics, anti-VEGF injections and YAG capsulotomy alongside cataract pre/post clinics. Outside of work he enjoys sports, hiking and travelling.

Amit Nakum BSc(Hons) MCOptom DipTp(IP)vProf Cert Med Ret

Amit Nakum is currently the Senior Lead Optometrist in Medical Retina for SpaMedica. Amit has broad experience in cataract, YAG laser, vitreoretinal and medical retina clinics as well as being the associate clinical lead for SpaMedica hydroxychloroquine retinopathy screening services. Known for his abilities as a clinical educator and mentor, Amit has a keen interest in research and is a strong advocate in promoting the ophthalmic and optometric profession. 

He is an independent prescribing optometrist and has further qualifications in medical retina and is proficient in minor surgical skills involving ocular therapeutic injections and YAG laser. He has numerous achievements in his clinical work and leadership; currently leading a large team of optometrists and allied health professionals in SpaMedica medical retina services in the south.
