Specialist Qualifications (AS, SP, IP & CL)

The Indicative Guidance is designed to support qualification providers by providing additional detail to accompany the GOC Outcomes for Approved Qualifications for Contact Lens Opticians. The indicative guidance provides more detail on the content that is expected to be in the new specialist qualifications, and gives examples of the types of assessment that could be used for the new GOC outcomes.

The Indicative Guidance is designed to support qualification providers by providing additional detail to accompany the GOC Outcomes for Approved Qualifications in additional supply (AS), supplementary prescribing (SP) and independent prescribing (IP) categories. The indicative guidance provides more detail on the content that is expected to be in the new specialist qualifications, and will give examples of the types of assessment that could be used for the new GOC outcomes.

Project Three - ‘Enhancing the scope of practice in optical professionals’, was launched at the SPOKE networking and collaborative writing event in January 2024 where representatives from across the sector (including employers, qualifications and sector bodies) considered the challenges and opportunities arising from revising the curricula. 

A report on the findings of this project has been produced and submitted to the GOC for consideration.
