The Indicative Guidance is designed to support qualification providers by providing additional detail to accompany the GOC Outcomes for Approved Qualifications for Contact Lens Opticians. The indicative guidance provides more detail on the content that is expected to be in the new specialist qualifications, and gives examples of the types of assessment that could be used for the new GOC outcomes.
Project Three - ‘Enhancing the scope of practice in optical professionals’, was developed through a series of workshops with representatives from across the sector. The report has now been published and can be downloaded below:
Project Four: ‘Inclusive education for specialist registration – developing learners with diverse experience and skills’ was launched in October 2024, with desk-based research undertaken. This project considers inclusive approaches to specialist education, recognising that the increased flexibility of ETR will result in learners being more diverse, particularly in relation to age, clinical experience, time available for study, and familiarity with and fluency in learning and assessment methods.
