Wearing a mask is now a familiar sight and has proved how important our eyelids are in nonverbal communication. The human brain is very good at discerning someone’s age, and even their health, by simply looking at their eyes.
We have all heard that the eyes are windows to the soul, but what we actually mean is how important eyelids are in conveying emotions. It is no wonder that cosmetic surgery of the eyelids has become one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries in the UK.
Blepharoplasty is a relatively simple operation, and patient satisfaction rates are very high. We have all seen satisfied patients after cataract surgery, and I have seen similarly delighted patients after blepharoplasty surgery. Some patients have described their experience as life-changing. In my opinion, the UK ophthalmic community should feel more confident in promoting functional and cosmetic eyelid surgery.
