New test to detect Rb in unborn babies
Babies in the womb can now be tested for retinoblastoma (Rb) thanks to a new test developed by Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.
The test, which has been rolled out in England, means babies at risk of developing Rb can be monitored and treated much sooner. Normally, diagnosis can only be made once the tumour has progressed, and the eye can’t be saved.
