Reclaiming your tax
The College of Optometrists is an HMRC approved professional body. If you are a UK taxpayer, and you self-fund your membership, you can claim back the tax on your fee.
Higher rate tax-payers paying the full membership fee may be entitled to tax relief of £126, while basic rate tax-payers may be able to claim back £63.
You can claim for the current tax year (6 April 2022 to 5 April 2023) and the four previous tax years.
How to claim
You can submit a claim at gov.uk. You will need a Government Gateway user ID and password. Creating a Government Gateway ID usually takes about 10 minutes: it works best if you have to hand:
- your National Insurance number
- a recent payslip or P60 or a valid UK passport.
