COVID-19: Local lockdown in Leicester

The Secretary of State for Health has announced stricter lockdown measures in Leicester for a two week period due to a rise in COVID-19 cases in the city.

As a result, the College recommends the following for members and optical practices in Leicester:

  1. Practices can remain open to offer essential, urgent and emergency eye care.
  2. Practices should continue to follow the College’s infection control, social distancing and PPE guidance to ensure practices remain safe.
  3. Practices should prioritise services and operate on the basis they are in the red column of the College’s recovery phase table.
  4. The College will liaise with NHSE/I to provide further guidance and confirm whether other areas in Leicestershire will be affected.

These measures will help protect Leicester’s residents while maintaining the community’s essential eye health and vision needs. Please ensure you remain updated at this time.
