College representative - RCophth’s Refractive Surgery guideline development group

College vacancy Part-time Volunteer Apply by 20 August 2024

The College of Optometrists is seeking to recruit one member to represent the College for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth) Professional Standards for Refractive Surgery guideline development group. This is a great opportunity to contribute to the development of standards and guidelines in refractive surgery and recognise the important role optometrists play in providing safe and effective care for patients in this field as part of multi-disciplinary teams.

The standards are aimed at refractive surgeons and health care professionals involved in the care of patients undergoing refractive surgery. First published in 2017, they were updated in 2021 and as part of their regular review schedule are due for another update in 2024.

Commitment:

  • To contribute to the development and update of professional standards for refractive surgery and related guidance. It is expected that the review process will take approximately 3 months.
  • This will be achieved by attending all virtual discussion meetings (initially scheduled 7th October 2:30pm – 4pm, only one likely required).
  • Other communication regarding any specific matters for review and agreement will take place via email.
  • All members of the group are required to provide a declaration of interest covering both the present and the preceding three years.
  • This is a voluntary position and so no remuneration is available. All meetings are planned to be virtual so no travel is involved.
