College vacancy Part-time Temporary Apply by 6 November 2024

We are recruiting current Scheme for Registration OSCE Examiners to sit on the OSCE Final Assessment Panel. The OSCE Final Assessment Panel oversee the performance of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination and the individual components involved.

Objectives

The objectives of the OSCE Final Assessment Panel are to:

  • review the performance of the examination
  • review the performance of individual stations
  • review the performance of pilot stations
  • review the performance of examiners and advise on topics for examiner training
  • make minor changes to OSCE stations to optimise their effectiveness
  • make recommendations to the OSCE station development groups on the standard and on the development of new stations
  • make recommendations to the Education and Standards Committee about any major changes to the examination and the individual components involved

The Panel will concentrate on the OSCE. The Work-based Assessment process will be outside its remit, although both components form part of a wider assessment system, overseen by the Scheme for Registration Performance Panel. The Final Assessment Panel will provide a summary report to each meeting of the Performance Panel.

Training and support will be provided by The College of Optometrists.

Expected commitment

The OSCE Final Assessment Panel will meet approximately one week after the conclusion of the OSCE examinations, currently held four times a year. At least six weeks’ notice will be given of panel meetings.

Panel members are appointed for three years and then may be extended for a further three years.

The Panel normally runs from 10:00 to 16:00 with a lunch break. Meetings are normally held remotely unless stated otherwise. No preparation for the meetings is required.
