Dr Cindy Tromans FCOptom explains how she combines her global roles with her day job on the UK front line.

Her CV lists College President, Chair of the College’s Board of Trustees, and Chair of the UK’s Joint Optical Committee for the European Union. She is currently President of the European Council of Optometry and Optics (ECOO), and a director of the World Council of Optometry (WCO). So it is surprising that, at one stage, Dr Cindy Tromans FCOptom wasn’t even sure that optometry was the right career for her. 

“My family were in the optical business, manufacturing spectacle frames and glazing, so going into optics seemed like a natural thing to do. However, once I got to university and started studying for my degree, I started questioning if I really wanted to be an optometrist,” Cindy says.
